Volunteering – Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Peter Zippi Memorial Fund. We are a small cat rescue located in Hermosa Beach and welcome adult volunteers of all ages and skillsets as well as high school volunteers. Unfortunately, due to COVID, we are not taking on new in-house shelter volunteers until further notice.
Training takes place at VCA Coast Animal Hospital, 1560 Pacific Coast Highway, where our cats are housed. This is located at the corner of 16th and PCH in Hermosa Beach. Our phone number is 310-379-1264.
We require 2-3 training sessions that run from 1.5 hours to 2 hours. Training is scheduled when we have 2 or more volunteers ready to train and openings for them to work. After training, volunteers sign up for at least one 2 to 3-hour shift per week, the same time each week. No more than 2 volunteers are scheduled for any shift. After you begin volunteering, you may change your shift to one more preferable as they become available. The hospital is open 7 days a week and we try to have volunteers there every day.
Volunteers are required to be at least high school age and must commit to at least 50 hours of work after being trained. Initially, volunteers clean cat cages, scoop litter, do bedding laundry, and when the work is done love and socialize homeless cats and kittens. If you desire and your work demonstrates your ability, we will train you to help with adoptions both on-site and off. Volunteers are also asked occasionally to help with some paperwork, but the majority of the work is with the cats.
For safety concerns, you must wear ankle-length pants and closed-toed shoes.
